Frequently Asked Questions
What does supervision look like at YFC Camp? Our ministry emphasis is on healthy relationships. We desire to be supportive adults in the lives of our students. Therefore we keep a student:leader ratio of 6:1.
What does lodging look like at YFC Camp? The cabins house six bunk beds which sleeps 16 total. The cabins are air conditioned and have a shared bathroom with at least three indoor showers, sinks & stalls. We place one leader in each cabin for every six students. If there are over 6 students in a cabin we add an additional leader.
Is anyone eligible for this trip? At YFC Camp we focus heavily on relationships. We desire to know & have relationship with each camper before they step on the bus AND continue that relationship with them after the week of YFC Camp. Therefore we are only opening this trip up to students who attend Campus Life.
Are there limited spots for this trip? Because YFC Camp desires to have a strong student:leader ratio of 6:1 we will be limiting YFC Camp spots. Currently we have two female and two male leader attending. Therefore there are only spots for 12 girls and 12 boys. We will be updating the spacing as we recruit more highly qualified and fully vetted leaders.
What adults are attending camp? Youth For Christ of Indian River County has a team of adult leaders who volunteer at our Campus Life Club each week. Those leaders will be the adults who attend YFC Camp. They have been fully vetted and screened through our risk management team and have passed an approved background check.
What is the schedule for YFC Camp? We as leaders do not reveal the day to day schedule for YFC Camp. There are three main reasons for that:
We work to maintain a flexible week. If the weather rains out an event or if we fall behind in programming things can get canceled or postponed. Campers can be disappointed by these things. If the schedule is unknown to them this situation is avoided.
We do not want a student to decide ahead of time that they are not participating in something.
We desire for YFC Camp to be a week of surprises and an overall feeling of excitement for what comes next.
What kind of health & safety processes are in place? YFC Camp recruits two health professionals (RNs, Doctors, EMTs etc.) to provide health care and medical needs for all campers and leaders throughout the week of camp. There are medical forms parents will need to fill out prior to camp. All students must turn in any medication they need once arriving at camp. Their medication will be kept in a secure location and will be distributed by the Camp Med Team. In addition, YFC Camp follows all state and local health guidelines to make the week of camp safe for all.
What kind of contact will I have with my child while they are gone? YFC Camp works to guard the presence of each camper and leader who joins our week of adventure. That is why each student must turn in their devices upon arrival at camp. We desire to create a much needed gap between us and technology during this week of camp. Each leader will have their phones but are told to restrict their use of it, especially in front of the students. You will have each leader’s contact information and your students will be allowed to use their leaders phone to call home during the week. However, we ask for these calls to be limited to at most twice during the time away. Phones will be kept in a secure place and will be returned to the campers when they enter the bus ride home.
There are free phones students can use that are placed around the camp property. However, we cannot promise that your camper will take the initiative to call you… they are often too busy in the lake or pool.
What should my camper pack? YFC will be releasing a packing list for campers on May 20th 2025 by posting it on our website and sending it out via email.
Who is eligible to apply for a scholarship? YFC of Indian River bears a large portion of the financial responsibility of camp. We work each year to raise support, therefore the cost of $400 is already significantly underwritten. Since we work to keep this price point lower there is a limited amount of funds left to distribute scholarships. Priority is given to all first time campers then we work to award second time campers based on need. However, there is no maximum household income. All are welcome to apply for scholarships with the ask that all forms are filled out honestly.

What kind of spiritual emphasis is there at camp? YFC Camp desires to create a transformational environment for young people through authentic relationships, shared experiences, outdoor challenges and times of solitude that draw students to the heart of God. Although we present the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and invite campers to respond to His gift of salvation, students from any religious background or faiths are encouraged & invited to join! If a camper of a different belief attends YFC Camp we vow to listen and engage them where ever they are spiritually. As Christians we know that Christ calls us to love and respect everyone.
What about Covid-19? YFC Camp is aware that travel & lodging in close quarters presents a higher risk of Coid-19 infection. We first advise anyone with certain comorbidities to weigh the risks of a camp setting such as this and decide for themselves if this is the right time and trip for them. Our team is committed to promoting health & safety precautions like hand-washing, sleeping head to foot, keeping personal belongings in private spaces etc. For these reasons and the data proving students age 11-14 are not susceptible to serious cases of Covid-19 we will not be requiring masks or Covid-19 shots.
